Welcome to Bike Lady, Inc.
Give a kid a bike. Change a life.
2017 INVITATION - It's all because of you!

Dear TEAM BIKE LADY:

I am pleased to announce Bike Lady Season 10 has arrived! It is almost beyond belief that a charity started by accident is turning ten years old. And WOW, what a ride it’s been! In the last nine years, you provided a new bike, helmet, and lock to 8,177 children in Ohio’s foster care system. We are overwhelmed with appreciation and in awe of your generosity. Thank you.

Because of you:
  • A teen made the football team
  • Three brothers graduated high school – the first of their biological family
  • A teen makes it to therapy each week
  • A large sibling group rides bikes every day after school – releasing tension, exercising, having fun, and finding joy
  • A five-year old sits on her bike to eat dinner. It’s the only thing she has ever owned. All hers, she won’t let it go. She feels safe and secure with her bike
Christmas morning is less than three months away. With your support, hundreds more kids all over Ohio will wake up to a brand new shiny bike, plus helmet and lock. Can you channel your October Santa and give away a bike today? Your gift matters because foster care is hard and bikes change lives:
  • There are 15,000 Ohio kids in foster care. About 25% are available for adoption, and 1,000+ annually age out without a forever family
  • Kids don't do anything wrong to enter the system. They are in foster care because someone has extensively hurt, neglected, or rejected them
  • Rules and regulations prohibit these kids from doing lots of other typical kid stuff, and it's nearly impossible for the teens to get a driver's license, but they can ride bikes!
  • Bikes are big, shiny, and hold promise
  • Riding bikes is healthy, joyful freedom, and a chance to be like any other kid
  • Bikes provide a tremendous sense of permanence and ownership at a transitional time when everything seems out of control
  • Bikes provide transportation so both urban and rural foster youth can get to school, the library, a part-time job, or be on a sports team
  • Your gift creates a positive lifelong memory. Everyone remembers their first bike
Bikes are a game changer and the ultimate equalizer, especially for the teens. Bikes provide transportation that leads to opportunity, giving kids in care a chance to defy their circumstances and realize their full future potential.

You fundamentally alter the trajectory of Ohio foster youth when you give to Bike Lady. You give exercise, mobility, and opportunity; you help heal moments of trauma with moments of joy; and you provide hope. When asked what their new bikes mean to them, the kids always say, "It means someone cares what happens to me; someone loves me.”

Simultaneously, our prison assembly program gives purposeful opportunity for an inmate to serve others. Volunteer service is proven to increase offender self-esteem, lower inmate violence and gang activity, and reduce recidivism upon community reentry. Yes, because of you, hundreds of offenders at seven Ohio prisons work hard giving back to their communities, trying to make amends and achieve atonement, realizing who they were doesn’t need define who they are becoming.

Every bike you give changes at least two lives, giving a measure of freedom and well-being to both. Like the season in which we give them, bikes are magical. Last year, you gave 1,700 Ohio children across 44 counties their first new bike! (See stats and map from 2016.) Can we do it again in 2017?

Please donate online today, or mail a check to Bike Lady, Inc., PO Box 311, Blacklick, OH 43004. As always, 100% of your contribution goes to bikes. Donations are tax-deductible.

Why donate now? Because creating holiday magic takes time. NOW is our time to order, transport, and assemble before we can deliver bikes during the holidays. Please channel your October Santa and let's get some bikes on the move!

Kids in foster care belong to our entire community. They are some of the most vulnerable among us. Each of us can enrich the daily life experience and expand opportunities for our foster youth. It's a bike. So simple, yet so powerful. You are the magic of this season. You give kids joy. It's all because of you.

As always, thank you for believing. Now, let’s roll!

Kind Regards,
